Dreams of poppies, carnations and flowers and the poppy seed roll project

Lately I've been going all traditional. Be it through exploring traditional meals that fall under the label vegan or trying out recipes from grandma's cookbook. Browsing through cooking magazines online I found one about a poppy seed roll. Seeing the image transported me immediately to childhood and to the taste of a roll that my grandma -baba had made it.  Needless to say I was very eager to try it out. So, on Monday morning when I was planning out my week I marked Thursday as bake day and set off to make the roll. On Monday I got all the ingredients I needed and realized that I didn't have a coffee grinder to grind the poppy seeds. On Wednesday, I went to my aunt's and we ground them. On Thursday the stars were all aligned for me to make the rolls. I followed the recipe and the only thing I modified was the amount of sugar, of course I used less.
First I prepped the yeast with milk sugar and flour, then the butter and flour and while the dough was resting I mixed the poppy seeds, milk and sugar. Sometimes it's nice to steal few hours just for yourself and do something you like. My partner sees cooking as torture, I see it as creative expression and relaxation, as time for myself. I sometimes use it to become less chaotic and more organized, sometimes to notice how clumsy or patient I am and whether I can improve. Spending the a Thursday morning cooking for me was time invested instead of time wasted. As I was rolling the rolls I thought of millions of thoughts and dismissed millions more. Nothing else mattered or existed during the hour and a half while I was making the poppy seed rolls. The result...well you can judge for yourself  there. I can vouch for the taste as only three slices were left by Saturday morning.
