The Stolen or Borrowed Recipe and the Outdoor Weekend

It could have been a weekend like any other. Spent at home, cleaning, going out for a coffee, wishing to read something, wishing to cook something very special, promising to make a weekend menu and cook it, wasted on the internet or in front of the TV or on any other mindless thing.

It could have been but it wasn't, fortunately. Thanks to a very kind friend, one of those with great heart and broad mind, the Saturday was dedicated to skiing. If it hadn't been this skiing trip, I wouldn't have met my neighbour. If it hadn't been for this skiing trip, I wouldn't have cooked. If it hadn't been for the skiing trio I wouldn't have enjoyed one of the loveliest days in the mountains. I wouldn't have made the energy bites, twice.

Once for that particular Saturday and once more for the Sunday school. The first association of Sunday school 100% is religion. Well, outdoor activities and love of nature and mountains are sort of religion, maybe the best one, all the others are shady and quite dubious, but that's not the point of this. This Sunday school was about going to the mountains in winter and in snow. We learned about the holy trinity of winter mountaineering and tried out lots of cool stuff. Some of us got tired, some just had a sweet tooth ;). Anyway, both were perfect days shared with beautiful people

And now for the stolen /borrowed recipe.
I took this recipe from another cooking blog  Sitno seckano. Of course I made some changes to the recipe.

1/2 cup pumpkin seeds
1/2 cup almonds or hazelnuts or walnuts
1 spoon cocoa flakes or cocoa powder - whichever you have at hand
1 cup dates - preferably fresh, dry dates even when soaked don't give the proper taste
all this goes into the blender
then add
1 tbs chia seeds
1 tbs sesame seeds
1 cm diced ginger
1 tbs honey
1 tbs tahin

You can always keep in mind the sesame seeds and the ginger, for next time ;) and you can play around a bit by adding some sea salt, just to break the sweet taste and add more minerals, although as it is the mix is packed with protein and minerals.

Mix well, make balls or blocks, pack individually, for convenience, Pack your back-pack, skis, crampons, ice axe, helmet, or whatever boosts your adrenaline level and get going. These bites will keep your energy levels at their peak.
