Things that take you far away
When Mohamed cannot go to the mountain the mountain comes to Mohamed..this was the conclusion on a rainy evening on the way home. With my plans to visit London failing faster than I can say "God Save the Queen" I got the treat of a typical British weather, rain in all forms, something my Macedonian vocabulary on rain cannot possibly contain. I finally admitted that I desperately need a city break, something different from Skopje and Bitola, something far away or not so far away, but different. But, whichever way I turn the doors and windows of opportunity are closed not even left a tiny bit ajar.
So it is a rainy night, my ego deeply hurt from the fall in the middle of the main street in front of almost half packed cafes and I wish I were somewhere else, far away. I go across the bridge and meet my friends at "Menada" an artsy yet very down to earth place with quirky furniture, everyday drinks and snacks unusual for a Macedonian cafe/lounge bar. Chips with spices, to satisfy hard core local tastes, tastefully arranged meze plates with something for everyone, beer meze plate or whiskey meze plate. There were baked dates with prosciutto, two types of cheese in prosciutto, some dried fruit and walnuts served on a lettuce bed, quite lovely.
We drink beer, chat and nibble at the food, everything is just fine, I'm not here I'm in Prague having beer and snacks at an indie pub. I'm in Paris, that's where the conversation takes me. The music calls for dancing, there is a girl dancing the night away, and the music is cool. I join the dance I'm in Berlin free and without a care in the world.
I've had my Euro trip for the night, London weather, Bohemian beer, Parisian taste, Berlin freedom in a Skopje setting.
