Zuccheria Lane

Once upon a time in a far away land there was a town. There was a hood in the town and there were houses in the hood. The houses were big, bigger and the biggest and each house respectively had a big bigger and the biggest garden. People lived in the houses and people looked after the gardens.

As in any other hood there were tales of joy, of mystery and horror. Rumor had it that the Brazilian across the street was gay, a horror story to the elder ladies who looked after opportunities for their granddaughters. then there was the story of Joy(the English version of his name)who lived in the grand palace his father had built. He was  a twentyish-thityish economic emigrant, who had come to his country of origin looking for a spouse, because local women were the most obedient ones. Then the mystery story about the great house on the uphill street, everybody knew that the owner had built that house with drug money but it was a well-kept public secret and everybody pretended to know nothing of this tattle-tale.

As in any other hood with houses as we said there were gardens filled with homegrown fruits and vegetables. And it is worth mentioning that the hype of the time was organic food and the leftover youth in the hood was simply crazy about it. Of course when you grow your own vegetables you should be aware of the possibility of surplus and you should be prepared to think of different ways to cook or prepare the same vegetable, as it is the case in our story. So without any further a do, I present you its majesty the zucchini or courgette cooked and served in 3 different ways.

Stuffed zucchini with minced meat (goes well with horror stories)
Peel and shell 3-4 zucchini. Sauté a diced onion and add the core of the zucchini, add 300g minced meat or less, add spices and half a glass of water or stock. If you wish you can also add half a handful of rice. Let it simmer for about 15 minutes or until the meat turns brownish. Stuff the zucchini and cover with tomato circles. Bake for 40 min to 1 hour.

Fried zucchini with garlic sauce (goes well with mystery stories)
Easy-peasy. Peel and slice the zucchini and fry in hot oil. For a crispier taste drown them in beer 10 minutes prior frying. Clean the garlic and mix it in a blender with some yogurt and season to taste.

Steamed zucchini (goes well with stories of joy)
Peel and cut the zucchini in finger-sized pieces. Cook over steam. Season to taste and serve preferably with meat
