Summertime
Summertime and the livin's easy....and I'm sure that not by far will you associate something so southern so jazzy with fried zucchini, which in its own right is typically Balkan.
Starving and not knowing what to eat I rampaged through the half empty fridge. When I'm alone I forget to eat, I manage on leftovers and bread and butter, no fun cooking for one.
What do you do on a day like this when it's hazily hot outside, when you see mirages in the city centre, when you're starving for something and you don't know what, when all the edible food in the fridge is half a cup of cream? I dream of something fresh and invigorating. Hot or not I had to eat something, so I ventured out and bought some zucchini, and beer, and some garlic and some dill. The fresh dill teased my nostrils all the way up the stairs.
Upstairs, I cleaned the zucchini and cut them into circles. I opened the beer, took a sip, just to taste the temperature, perfect for the weather outside and i drowned the zucchini in the beer. Meanwhile, I listened to 3 or 4 more songs. After that I took up frying the zucchini, this is probably the most boring part, luckily it was over after 7 songs.
I opened the half empty fridge and took out the almost frozen cream. I mixed in the garlic and the dill. The smell was invigorating, the jazzy sounds of Gershwin melted with the Mediterranean, or to be more precise with the Balkan cuisine. I took one perfect circle and dipped it in the cream....What do you know, cooking and eating for one might be fun.
