The Story of Us
.....and the mushrooms
About 8 years ago. It was June and we were preparing for our university admission exams. An empty hallway, long black hair and the inevitable question "What time is it?" Few months later we were already friends sharing the joys and woes of faculty. The long hours the pointless breaks and the way home. It was peculiar though, we were each other's mirror reflection. We have always seen our negative sides in the other, never spoke of them but when aware always tried to overcome them, to be a better person. That's how we are: introvert, shy, vulnerable and sincere, but we'll never show the last two, be it the last thing we do.
So after sickness and health, till something does us apart we prevail. There were times, of course when we were apart and distant and seemingly unreachable, but there is always that phone call on a Saturday afternoon saying "how about a night on the town?" or" how about beer?". Or a Saturday talk about baked mushrooms with yellow cheese and good wine...
After months of dreaming and longing for the mushrooms and wine the time has come for us to share the perfect night. One of us brings the wine the other prepares the mushrooms. It is the usual talk. "I miss you" "Me too"(it might sound lame, but it's true, rare are the people I miss, so far only two account for that role). We clean the mushrooms, stuff them with butter, and discuss points, issues, talk, real conversation, gossip, fight over some meaningless points, and we are us again, weird wonderful magnificent us. One of a kind. We're a well known pair, an item, a long lasting relationship. We add the spices, salt for all the bitterness so far, black pepper to remind us we've got plenty to go. Basil and rosemary to remind us of good times passed and good times to come. The mushrooms go in the oven for 20 minutes and out comes the wine and Gotan Project. We enjoy the perfect evening together after a long time.

Just nice!
ReplyDeleteIt reminded me of the year 2000 when we were thinking "Would it ever be possible to get out of here and graduate?" And we did it!
But I miss the 2000 - 2004 years a lot, especially the parties.
it is nice when it is possible to find time for vine and mushrooms...nice to remember the old times...to see if this new time is as we thought it will be...
